Scared

"Is it worse to be scared than to be bored,
that is the question."
Gertrude Stein

A Time When I Was Scared
crayon on paper
by artist in residence
Mischief

Mischief's artistic recollection of a recent trip to the Doctor's office.  A quick visit for one vaccination...at least Daddy and the nurse are smiling.

I get scared too.  Like back in college when a professors told me "you're a painter, not an illustrator."  But I was too scared...too scared not to have a formal vocation and more importantly, a regular paycheck.  Too scared of being a starving artist.  Medical Illustration would be a firm foundation, a safe choice...a secure way to earn a living.  But almost 20 years of risk aversion can be paralyzing...and boring.  So is it "worse to be scared than to be bored?"

Ready to find the courage to try new things...to be a little scared.

The future is a blank canvas.

oh..... so exciting.... I have the utmost confidence that you can be an amazing illustrator AND painter. Can't wait to see what is in store. Love your budding artist Mischief too!

The decision to 'go forth' is empowering in itself--good luck--exciting things ahead!

And like John and the nurse in Mischief's drawing, we are smiling...knowing the outcome will be positive and worth any minor pains or fear.
Proud of you,

My Mother never allowed us to be bored or afraid.

You're preaching to the choir- you can and will be everything you want to be. I promise! Try not to be afraid. No matter what you will have your family and your health. Everything else is lagniappe.
