Lilly - I've been missing you

Lilly, I miss you...I've been missing you for some time actually.

Remember when...
...when you could wear a Lilly shift dress to the grocery store, running errands or chasing children?  Fun yet functional dresses made for the busy Mom....some even with pockets.  Modestly priced for a modest Mom?

The vision Lilly Pulitzer created has been the college gal looking to "partay"...on top of a U-Haul no less.  The patterns she created to disguise juice soak up bourbon and beer.  Is this the new face of Lilly?

Hey, I attended my share of steeplechases back in the day.  Fine.  But ALL of the designs seem to be created with this type of activity in mind.  I cannot wear backless, spaghetti strapped dresses to the Bi-Lo.  I need a big ole bag of a dress, no waistline, and WITH pockets please.  The simple shift dresses that make up my summer uniform are destined to become vintage before their time.  Lilly, thank you for your original vision...I miss you.

I too miss the good ole days of clean cut and appropriateness of life. Have we lost every modicum of modesty? I always hear the word "inappropriate" which saddens me. Can we bring back shifts, head scarves and bright twin sets? Pretty please.

Patricia, I did find one shift this year via Kayce Hughes....the niece of Lilly Pulitzer, I guess it runs in the family.

Will start searching for vintage Lilly....I've aged out of the current designs sadly

Amen! I've found myself trading off to Kayce Hughes as well.... love her sensibility. Thankfully, however, the Lilly shifts are still available in little sizes and are my number 1 summer essential for my girls.

Crissy: if I could only enlarge our little girls' dresses, exactly what I want

Well said. As I am reading your post it is not yet 8am and I am in my version of a mom dress. Our Malone dress worn sans belt. Thanks for reminding me that I am not alone in wanting something easy and pretty for those glamorous trips to the grocery store!
