A blank canvas in an earlier post...now a completed painting. My first attempt at abstraction...a learning experience. Yes, I know how to paint....but I paint stuff...things, objects, people. My brain wired to render my subjects with dimension. This was a departure...no highlights or cast shadows here, just an exercise in color theory and composition.
Oil over an acrylic underpainting.
Despite a few days of drying time (it's still drying) and a Mayhem taking a red color pencil to it ("the cookie monster did it") it is hanging in our dining room. A blast of color in a blank corner.
Initially inspired by the colors in a conch shell, what came out looks more like the sheets I used to take to camp. And even further back in my subconscious...I think I painted a shift dress once worn by my late Grandmother. A dress my sister once wore to high school on "tacky day" that has graduated to cool vintage. Note to self...lose weight so I can wear this dress.
Looking forward to the next painting...yes, the unicorn painting.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND

Objectively hitting perfection on a daily basis with your work, I know the transition to abstract, where the results are subjective, has taken you out of your comfort zone...so congrats on completing this first piece!!! I really like the movement in it.

thanks MK. The best part of this painting....it was free! The only artwork I can afford...that done by myself ha. Admire so many contemporary painters right now....but can't afford their pieces.
