I vote for plants! No time to analyze the debate last night much less take care of fussy houseplants. So my plant selection has evolved...from finicky divas into low-mainantance succulents. An evolution that began outside (see this post), it has spread indoors.
A collection on my library table. A faded bromeliad surrounded by a grouping of small succulents...a Christmas cactus standing guard.
A collection of living sculptures, nestled among my books.
Appreciated for their hardiness...but also for their diversity of color, shape and texture.
What are your most trusted houseplants?

I reckon my houseplants are up to no good. My orchids in my front window are having a debate as to which one shall bloom first. Perhaps they need some tele prompting.

I love our 3 jade plants that I have had for years. They are needing a bigger pot.
ha, Patricia...maybe your orchids will reach a compromise! So funny
Kayce, love jade....started two in our sunroom. Hope they prosper like yours
Right now I'm coaxing three "Creeping Charlie" starts "borrowed" from the mother plant. She didn't seem to mind since they had run down the sides of the plant stand and would surely be inching their way along the floor given time.
My son-in-law made an adorable trellis chair as a donation to our upcoming fire department fundraiser. I thought a Creeping Charlie plant in a beautiful pot would be the perfect companion.
I still have three weeks....say a little prayer.
Gail, Creeping Charlie is new to me...looked it up. Is it a trailing plant? Love the idea of the plant and trellis chair together...what a nice son-in-law! Fingers crossed, your cuttings thrive
Yes, Jennifer, it's a trailing plant which would seem counter-productive on a trellis chair when you want the vines to intertwine and inch their way UP. It's just an enticement to get them to bid on the chair. ;-) Sort of a bonus.
The plant is really quite beautiful but if planted outside and in perfect climate conditions, it becomes terribly invasive and hard to get rid of. I can't imagine. But, oh, what a lovely ground cover it would be in a shady spot.
P.S. Our son-in-law is the best. I remember when our daughter told me she thought he might propose. I told her, "If you let him get away, you're crazy."
Gail, when I met my husband my Father told me "there aren't too many trains coming into the station...time to jump on one." I think you put it better to your daughter ha
Looks lovely as always..... is there such thing as a plant stylist?..... if so, you wold be perfect! Orchids and succulents are my "go-to"s for indoor plants. Just moved the kumquat tree indoors for the winter and he doesn't appear too happy. :(
love my christmas cactus!! i am researching jade plants....this has inspired me to plant shop!!!
i love your christmas cactus too Lucy, next time I'm in town I plan to steal it! You'll love the jade plants...very easy, rich green
So beautiful, you have a gift for arranging things. I have no luck with plants, except maybe orchids, those last a long time :)
Jennifer, I am so impressed by your green thumb. I have the most terrible time with house plants - I just replace my 7 dollar Trader Joe's orchids every month or so! And every winter I give myrtle topiary a try... the poor little guy. It never works out well for them!
Just bring some of your beautiful roses inside! They would trump any houseplant
