In the Studio-Creativity

"Creative people are often inclined to solitude"
-Susan Cain, author of Quiet, The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

In the studio today...quiet.  While I don't consider myself an introvert, I do need the solitude of my studio to, as Cain says, "work more deliberately and with greater concentration."  Quoting Cain from the article below which is an insightful look into our evolving office design

-making office design work-

Creativity born from solitude

A corner of my workspace

Years ago, working from home could have been isolating...thankful for the technology that allows me to stay connected to my colleagues and clients.  Most thankful for the freedom I have over my work environment...a bonus I cannot calculate into monetary terms

And to feel alive...always something living.  Like ideas, between dormancy and blooms

Still...I do have a little Dilbert in my workspace

Time to "shut up"....I have work to do

Hope you have a productive week in your workspace

You have the oddest, most intriguing profession I've ever heard of "for a girl". How did your dislocated hip drawings turn out? What's on the agenda for this week?

Gail: dislocated hip painted and shipped...have moved on to degenerative disc disease this week. Never a boring day

Dilbert is hilarious. I feel like I just stepped out of a Dilbert strip - going from a sea of gray cubicles as far as the eye could see, to the quiet of my home. I don't miss the office, but sometimes it's hard to have the right balance between alone time and social time - I need to be around others to spark creativity, but quiet and isolation to execute.
Wishing you a very productive day! XO

IDO: perfectly said...isolation to execute. An important point that the article missed...a balance needed in the work place for creative people

Hi, Jennifer -
Thanks for sharing your studio with us. It's such a wonderful and tranquil space to work. I love the all the brickwork. Is that a geranium?
Cheers from DC,

yes, Thai...a geranium. On a wobbly plant stand I bought at a weekly flea market off of Wisconsin Ave. many years ago while my sister was living in Georgetown

Aspire to have plant specimens on a beautiful piece of furniture like you one day!

Enjoyed your images from Sweden...surreal landscapes

Yes, I think you might be referring to the Georgetown flea's a great one that's been around 4-ever.
