Friends and Flowers

During a recent trip to Atlanta, we visited with some friends and their lovely garden.  Perfectly designed for entertaining or just sitting...a calm oasis

The view...bluestone and brick surrounding by clipped boxwood, roses and limelight hydrangea

Sitting area planted with azaleas and Cryptomeria (aka Japanese Cedar) which will grow to provide a lush privacy screen

Their versatile table...for guests, as well as, for herbs

Potted herb garden, steps away from the kitchen

Chives from which our host seasoned our morning breakfast

Espaliered pear tree

Roses and confederate jasmine dress the garage

-Leo Buscaglia

Thank you friend, for inviting me into your garden

Breathtakingly beautiful and it's always very difficult to get good shots when the sunlight is so intense. I'll bet it's even more beautiful on a overcast day or during a light sprinkle. Atlanta must provide perfect growing conditions because everything looks so lush and healthy. I wonder why they decided to terrace the section below the bench. The espaliered pear tree is a charmer, as are the pink roses around the birdbath. Heaven on earth for all the little birds.

Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Gail: wish I had before pictures....backyard on a slope, so terracing gave them some much-needed level areas. Garden designed after Atlanta had a historic amount of rain a few summers ago. Living on a slope not ideal in that situation ha. Their landscaper likely spent more time grading, installing drainage and retaining walls than actually planting those beautiful specimens

Yes, wish I could have taken those pics during the low light of afternoon...so serene. But we had an interstate waiting on us that day

Rebekka: pictures do not do it justice. Have a feeling I will be getting lost in your blog tonight...rather than working as planned

Love your work

This garden is ridiculously lovely...what I wouldn't give for a yard like that...in a city like Charleston :)! Your question on nurseries: Hyams is my favorite I think too, but I go to Brownswood Nursery for all bushes, trees, common local plants I want to buy in bulk etc..best prices I've found. Hidden Ponds Nursery I really like too, on 17 in Awendaw, also some good prices there. On the opposite spectrum, in Mt. Pleasant also on 17 is Abide A While... definitely one of the pricier options but nice nursery none the less. 17 between Charleston and Myrtle Beach is stuffed with mom and pop nurseries too.

Stunning.... that's the only word I can come up with. This kind of backyard is a dream for me..... I'm pinning it right now. Maybe one day..... after the soccer balls and hoola hoops are gone. :)

A beautiful quote and even more beautiful oasis. What a lovely Eden to retreat to at the end of a busy day. We're working on a re-landscaping project, and these shots are going in my inspiration file. I especially love the blue stone and brick combination. A work of art!

was a calm and serene day...and then her son's science experiment exploded in the kitchen. Thankfully, my friend has a peaceful retreat on days like that ha

IDO: good luck withe the landscaping, sure you gleaned much inspiration from Paris
