Need often fosters creativity.  We are hosting Thanksgiving this year...we need holiday arrangements but I don't need to spend any money.  Time to be creative.

Inspired by recent Sunday School lessons on how to live more simply and the Kinfolk belief in a  "natural approach to entertaining" I upcycled decorations from my October Garden Club meeting for Thanksgiving.

My ornamental cabbages, while pretty in October, looked like this in November

As the leaves browned, I trimmed their stalks to create  cabbage roses which I cut and used in lieu of  flowers

The miniature pumpkins I sprayed with satin gold paint to complement the ochre buds on a fresh batch of now blooming loquat branches

Greenery from the yard is plentiful and thankfully free

I harvested loquat branches which I mixed with strips of dried palmetto fronds that I already had on-hand

To hold arrangements in place I wrapped the stems with spanish moss harvested from the banks of our neighborhood creek

Also from the neighborhood, I was able to upcycle some oyster shells from a neighbor's oyster roast

Perfect for holding large branches in place...and for building my excitement for the oyster casserole on Thursday

The tables are set and ready for our guests.  Thankfully my arrangements will last for days, for I had to prepare our house Tuesday night.  A much needed hair appointment on Wednesday...even if the reincarnated Pocahontas and  Pilgrims show up at my house, they will have to wait until after my hair appointment.
